Ruth Campbell Obituary

Ruth Ann Campbell, age 70, won her fight with dementia on November 8, 2020. Ruth was born November 7, 1950 in Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of Jessie Edward and Dorothy Ruth Young Campbell.

Ruth lived the majority of her life in Hooker, which was the place she always called home. She graduated from Hooker High School and worked at the El Rancho Café in her younger years. She was the Assistant Manager at Mill's Ideal when she started her family and later worked as the secretary for Texas County District #1. During her life, Ruth also lived and worked in Texas and Colorado. After moving back to Hooker, she returned to working for Texas County District #1 until retiring. Ruth always held an assortment of other jobs and was busy all the time.

Even though Ruth claimed not to be a people person, she was passionate about people and wanted to make the world a better place. When her children were growing up, her house was full of kids. Even though she worked multiple jobs and was one of the only single parents in Hooker, she spent countless hours creating haunted houses, camping, serving as a softball coach, and a leader for both the Girl and Boy Scouts. One of her proudest moments and lasting memories was when she was voted "Dad of the Year" by the Hooker FFA for her work with the kids.

Ruth's other passion was her community. She helped to start the first program in the area that provided in-home service for area seniors. For years, she managed the program part-time and spent countless hours making sure the most vulnerable were cared for. She was also involved with the Hooker Christmas Angel project and was so proud of how many people the project served each year. Ruth also wrote and found volunteers to perform a melodrama for area senior care centers.

Her two children survive her, Barbara Ann (Craig) Rypkema of Lynchburg, Virginia and Adam Robert Reandeau of Prague, Oklahoma and her four grandchildren, Brittany, Mikayla and Elisha Rypkema and Raven Godfrey, her sister Rosalee Kerr, brother Ronald (Kae) Kerr and family, as well as an assortment of extended relatives and friends.

Even while Ruth's memory was fading, she remembered those she loved. She would often ask about them and wanted to make sure they were cared for and safe. While she may be gone, her spirit, kindness, determination, and grit will live on in her children, grandchildren, and those who knew her best. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hooker Christmas Angels Project, P.O. Box 1203, Hooker, OK 73945.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with Pastor Tom Freeman officiating. Interment will be in the South Lutheran Cemetery west of Hooker, Oklahoma.
