Spc. Jared Plunk, 27, of Clarksville, Tennessee, formerly of Turpin, Oklahoma was killed June 25, 2010 when his mounted patrol came under small-arms and rocket-propelled-grenade fire in the Konar province, Afghanistan.Jared Clifton Plunk was born August 26, 1982 in Liberal, Kansas the son of Glen and Glenda Plunk. He attended school in Turpin, Oklahoma graduating from Turpin High School with the Class of 2001.
He attended Seward County Community College and then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he entered the U.S. Army in August of 2006.
On December 22, 2006, Jared was united in marriage to Lindsay Fisher in Liberal, Kansas.
Jared was an infantrymen assigned to 1st battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
His awards and decorations include, Army Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Parachutists Badge; and Weapons Qualification: M4(expert).
Preceded in death by his father, Glen Tiny Plunk.
Survivors include his wife, Lindsay Plunk and their sons, Kason Plunk and Noah Fisher all of Clarksville, Tennessee; his mother, Glenda Willard and her husband Gerald of Maryville, Tennessee; two brothers, Justin Plunk and his wife Caitlin of Norman, Oklahoma, Jordan Plunk of Maryville, Tennessee; two sisters, Ranee Massoni and her husband Jordon and their son Gavin of Maryville, Tennessee and Michelle Plunk of Maryville, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the Turpin High School Auditorium in Turpin, Oklahoma with Rev. Stan Lehnart and Rev. Ronnie Hepperley officiating. Interment will be in the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal, Kansas.
