Orval R. Young, 94, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away March 17, 2011 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas. Orval was born September 20, 1916 in Hooker, Oklahoma, the son of Miles and Flora Williams Young. He attended rural school near the farm and later Hooker High School where he graduated. Orval served in WWII in the U.S. Air Force serving during the air offensive in Europe. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the good conduct medal, bronze star, European ribbon and six battle stars. Orval was the crew chief for B-17 Dead Mans Hand, the last B-17 lost to enemy action in the war in Europe. Orval was married to Dorothy Hadley in 1953. They farmed in the Hooker area. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hooker. Survivors include three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three grand nephews and three grand nieces. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Hooker with Rev. Les Bussell officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma. Memorials are suggested to the Hooker Cemetery Fund and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.
