Dr. Dwayne Colvin, EdD, 70, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away August 7, 2010 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dwayne was born January 24, 1940 in Beaver, Oklahoma the son of William Alvin and Lorene Slater Colvin. He attended Balko School and graduated from Balko High School with the Class of 1958. On June 4, 1961 in Adams, Oklahoma, Dwayne was united in marriage to Janice Friesen. He attended Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Oklahoma receiving his BS in 1962. He first taught at Garrett Elementary School then went to Guymon where he was a Jr. High Principal. In 1972 Dwayne was awarded his Masters in Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. They then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he worked on his doctorate. The degree of Doctor of Education was conferred in 1974. They then moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 1975 where he worked as an Assistant Superintendent with the Edmond Public Schools. In 1978 he was Assistant Superintendent at the Putman City School District in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1980 he went to Fairview, Oklahoma working as their Superintendent. In 1982 they moved back to Adams, Oklahoma where Dwayne farmed. In 1985 he became the Assistant Superintendent in Liberal, Kansas; in 1990 he was the High School Principal in Dodge City, Kansas, and 1998 worked as Superintendent in Meade, Kansas. He retired in 2001. Dwayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma, and enjoyed woodworking and was presently making cabinets for their home. Dwaynes goal in education was to see that all youth receive an education regardless of their circumstances. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dale Colvin and sister, Raynelle Hornbuckle. Survivors include his wife, Janice Colvin of the home; his son, Mike Colvin and his wife Valerie of Flower Mound, Texas, two grandsons, Chase Colvin and Chad Colvin both of Flower Mound, Texas, his sister, Kathleen Boyd of Tulsa, Oklahoma and his mother in law, Evelyn Friesen of Liberal, Kansas. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Brother Jim Roebuck and Gordon Schroeder officiating. Interment of cremains will take place at a future date in the Balko Cemetery. Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements.
